Hello, my name’s Mark Warrender and I’m your new superintendent dedicated to the Blaenau Gwent area.
Your police force has gone through some significant change this year, so that we can serve you better. We’re now split into five new local policing areas, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Newport.
I am responsible for policing in Blaenau Gwent.
We've done this to be more responsive to YOUR needs. We want you to be engaged, informed and reassured about how we police your area.
How does that happen?
Well,as you can see, the new areas coincide with local authority boundaries, and we will now be able to work even closer with our partners to tackle the issues which affect you most – so, if you're being troubled by anti-social behaviour, or speeding, for instance, we'll do our best to work together to sort it out – and we'll make sure we tell you what we did, and what happened to whoever caused the problem.
Blaenau Gwent is a safe area. We've worked hard to reduce crime by twenty two per cent.
Statistics often mean very little but to put it into perspective, in our 5 towns – that's Abertillery, Blaina, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale and Tredegar - we average just 3 crimes per town per day. My aims are to make the area even safer by continuing to reducing crime but also making you FEEL safer and happy with the services delivered by your local police officers in company with their partners.
We will do this by listening to you, by dealing with the things that matter to you the most, often things which may not amount to crime but affect your quality of life like anti-social behaviour and nuisance.
So, how do you get in touch with me and my team?
There are lots of ways. Come to your local station, write to me or email me, talk to my team members who are out and about in your area – or better still come to the meetings we organise near you. You'll find a full list of what we call PACT meetings at our website, gwent.police.uk. We'll also be inviting you personally to meetings in future – look out for my team in your neighbourhood – and if you would like us to hold a meeting in your club or your street, get in touch.
