Mick Giannasi joined Gwent Police in April 2005 as Deputy
Chief Constable and in September 2008 was promoted to Chief
Constable where he has overall responsibility for Leadership
and Direction of Policing Services in Gwent.
Prior to moving to Gwent, Mick was an Assistant Chief Constable in Merseyside where he had strategic responsibility for serious and organised crime, intelligence and specialist operations. During his two and a half years in Merseyside he developed a significant amount of experience in dealing with gang related violence, gun crime and drugs trafficking.
Mick originates from Stoke-on-Trent and prior to joining Merseyside Police, served for 23 years with Staffordshire Police in a variety of operational and headquarters based roles. The main focus of his career has been in area based uniformed policing with extended involvement in criminal investigation, public order, operational planning and professional standards. He was formerly staff officer to the Chief Constable and has been closely involved in the development of environmental protest policing methods at a national level.
Mick is married with a 23 year old son who is a Student Officer with Greater Manchester Police. His wife is also a police employee, working in the Communications Unit in Staffordshire Police. He has a B.A. Honours degree in Business Studies and a Diploma in Applied Criminology gained from the University of Cambridge.
