Special Constabulary

Gwent Special Constables recieving an award

The Gwent Police Special Constabulary is a valuable team of volunteer police officers who support Gwent Police in protecting and reassuring our communities.

As a Special Constable you will be working alongside neighbourhood teams carrying out day to day policing duties developing links between the organisation and local communities.

Being a Special Constable may not always be easy but you can make a real difference by giving a little time to society, and experience great satisfaction from making your community safer.

Special Constables commit at least 16 hours a month to work alongside our regular police officers in a variety of situations. As a Special Constable you will have the same uniform and equipment as police constable and you will be trained in law, recording and presentation of evidence, powers of arrest, rights of suspects, self-defence and use of force.

You will gain new skills and develop confidence through, training in and use of, communication skills, problem solving and planning, conflict resolution and incident evaluation.
