The recruitment process consists of:

1. Application Form:

2. Numerical & logic Tests (Police Initial Recruitment Test)

  • In the numerical reasoning test, you will be asked to answer 25 multiple choice questions that will measure your ability to solve numerical problems accurately. You will have 12 minutes to complete the test.
  • In the verbal logical reasoning test, you must answer 31 multiple choice questions in 25 minutes, that will measure your ability to reason logically when given facts about events

3. Competency Based Interview
You will be asked four questions on how you have dealt with specific situations. The questions will relate to the key competencies needed to be a Police Officer

4. Drug Test

5. Security checks & references

  • We will carry out background security checks to see if you are eligible to become a Special Constable. This will verify your identity. Please update us if there are any changes to this information.
  • The referees you provided on your application form will be contacted to verify if the information you have given is correct.

6. Fitness test
The fitness test is comprised of:

  • 15 m shuttle run to level 5/4 (Bleep test)
  • Upper body strength test using a machine called a Concept2 Dynometer, minimum average 34kg push, 35kg pull over 5 attempts each.

7. Health Check
Full health check which involve; height/weight, BMI, lung function, ears & eyes testing, blood pressure and urine sample.

8. Training
If you are successful in the recruitment process you will be asked to attend formal training for 17 weeks. This usually takes place on a weekday evening and a Saturday morning. With a requirement to attend a few full weekends. We would be looking for a commitment to attend all training.

Remember, if you are not successful, you will not be able to reapply for six months - so give it your best shot!
