Anti-social Behaviour

What can Gwent police and other authorities do?
By working with our partners, such as the local councils, community safety partnerships and housing authorities, there are a number of activities that can be undertaken where appropriate, to try and tackle anti-social behaviour. The police will not necessarily take the lead on all of these; some may be led by the local council or housing authority. Some of the tactics available include:

  1. Increased patrols by neighbourhood officers, and in some areas community safety wardens, in areas affected by anti-social behaviour
  2. Fines or ‘fixed penalties’
  3. Warning letters
  4. Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO’s) and Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABC’s)
  5. Speaking to parents about the behaviour of their child
  6. Seizing vehicles
  7. Dispersal orders to ensure that those congregating are moved on
  8. Injunctions
  9. Arresting those responsible
  10. Educating young people about the consequences of anti-social behaviour via the School Liaison programme delivered by (local) school liaison police officers
  11. Enforcing tenancy agreements and carrying out evictions
  12. Test purchasing to detect underage sales of alcohol or tobacco
  13. Noise abatement notices to reduce noise pollution
  14. Sessions to improve parenting skills
