Equality Information

In order to meet our General Equality Duty, Gwent Police is required to publish Equality Information about the Protected Characteristics of people that are affected by our policies and practices. On the left hand side of this page you will find links to information about Key Areas of our work that impact on people that share protected characteristics, as well as a range of equality data that relates to the communities that we police, our employees, and our Police Authority. We have also included links to other research and documents published by other organisations where relevant.

The All-Wales Diversity Group, chaired by Deputy Chief Constable Jackie Roberts (Association of Chief Police Officers Cymru lead for Equality and Diversity), agreed that the following information held by the police is relevant to the Public Sector Equality Duty:

  • information about hate crimes and incidents reported to us;
  • information about stops and searches;
  • information about violent crime committed against women;
  • information about user satisfaction;
  • information about complaints;
  • statistical information about the officers and staff that we employ.

Deputy Chief Constable Roberts endorsed the Group's decision to publish the above information by 31 January 2012, in compliance with the Public Sector Equality Duty.

Using our Equality Information
Equality data is published where available. We recognise that this data may not include information relating to every protected characteristic and where this is the case it has been considered in the development of our Strategic Equality Objectives; for example, where we didn't have information readily available about the protected characteristics of people affected by domestic abuse, we have set an Equality Objective that will allow us to start collecting this. Where we have included links to external research and information about local consultation, this has also been taken into account when setting our Equality Objectives.

If you have any comments on our Equality Information, suggestions on how it could be made more accessible, or any information that you would like to see but which isn't published, please email communitycohesion@gwent.pnn.police.uk

*Please note that data extracted from our Force Performance Systems can be subject to a small margin of error due to some poor quality and accuracy of data stored within Force systems.
