Chief Superintendent Marc Budden

Head of Neighbourhood Policing, Partnerships and Uniform Operations

Marc joined Gwent Police in 1993. He has worked in each of the five Local Authority areas, which has enabled him to build good relationships with local communities and partners. He is a Gold Public Order, CBRN  and Specialist Strategic Firearms Commander and also a Force Hostage Negotiator. He has commanded a number of large incidents both locally and nationally, including the Ryder Cup, NATO Presidential Visit and G8 Summit.

Marc has also obtained a Master’s Degree in Critical and Major Incident Psychology from Liverpool University.

Marc has always lived and worked in Gwent which makes him passionate about improving the way we deliver our Policing services to the public. He is proud of the Officers we lead in Gwent, who put themselves at risk every day to keep our communities safe. Marc is married with three children and enjoys spending his time with family, travelling and cycling.

Chief Superintendent Mark Warrender

Head of Professional Standards

Mark joined Gwent Police in 1996 and has worked in a variety of uniform and CID roles throughout his career. He has held a number of key posts within Gwent Police, including Head of Operational Support; Local Policing Unit Commander in both Newport and Blaenau Gwent and Head of Professional Standards.

Mark is Chair of the Gwent Branch of the Superintendents' Association and has regional responsibility for Equality, Hate Crime and Cohesion. Mark is a Strategic Firearms Commander; Force lead for Hostage Negotiators and one of the Force mentors.

Chief Superintendent Emma Ackland

Head of Service Development

Originally from Warwickshire, Emma Ackland joined Gloucestershire Police in 1994.  There she worked predominantly in uniform roles with emphasis on Local Policing.  In 2010 she was promoted to Superintendent and worked as a Local Policing Commander in rural and urban areas of the force.  In addition, she was lead Officer for Gloucestershire Police’s Force Control Room and Operations Department. 

In 2015, Emma transferred to Gwent to take up her new challenge as the Chief Superintendent, Head of Neighbourhood Policing and Partnerships. Emma recently took up the position of Head of Service Development.

Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Corcoran

Head of Protective Services 

Steve joined Gwent Police in 1992 and has enjoyed the opportunity to work in most departments across Uniform and CID throughout his career.

Whilst in Uniform, he has performed command roles in Local Policing, Firearms and Critical Incident Management along with leading significant projects including First Point Of Contact restructuring. However, Steve has spent the majority of his career in CID and is currently lead officer responsible for crime investigation and professional development of all detectives. Steve is a Senior Investigating Officer and has led numerous homicide, kidnap and extortion and serious crime enquiries.
