Firearms Licensing is responsible for issuing the following certificates to residents of Gwent:

Gwent Police hold regular open days for current certificate holders and potential certificate holders at different venues throughout Gwent. In attendance are Firearms Enquiry Officers and Admin Support Staff to assist with any queries. These are advertised on Gwent Police Twitter and Facebook pages.

The Firearms Licensing department consists of a Senior Firearm Enquiry Officer, five Administration Assistants and three Firearm Enquiry Officers (one of which is also Explosives Liaison Officer).

On all applications for Shotgun and Firearm Certificates there is a question asking: 'Have you been convicted of any offence?' Full details need to be given if the answer to this question is 'Yes'. Below is the guidance on completing this section.
In answering this question you are not entitled to withhold information about any offence. This includes motoring offences, convictions in places outside Great Britain, and (by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offender Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975) convictions which are spent under the 1974 Act. Both a conditional discharge and an absolute discharge count as convictions for this purpose.
The same question is asked on all renewal applications and the guidance stands the same however, on renewal, details need only be given of convictions since the existing certificate was issued.
