Who are we?
The Fire Crime team are part of the Fire Service’s Community Safety Team, based at the Service’s Headquarters in Llantrisant. The team covers the whole of the Gwent and South Wales Police areas, as far west as the Neath Port Talbot Unitary Authority.
What do we do?
Our business is working to reduce deliberate fire-setting, arson and associated anti-social behaviour across the communities of South Wales.
How do we achieve this?
Working closely with Fire Stations and our partners including: the Police, Local Authorities, Registered Social Landlords (RSL), Education, Health Authorities and communities, we employ a number of key strategies to tackle fire-setting and its causes to improve public safety and confidence. Our strategies include…
Proactive patrols and investigations (including attacks on fire crews and hoax calls), arson vulnerability assessments, community advice and engagement, partnership action days and reassurance
There will always be a Fire Crime Officer available 24/7 for specialised safeguarding services around targeted arson or threat of arson crimes, typically where domestic violence or hate crimes have occurred or are threatened. This service involves a full fire safety check, advice and fitting of a fire proof letter-guard and smoke alarms. Note: This service requires a referral to be made through an appropriate agency such as Police, Victim Support or RSL, please contact us below if you need any advice on this service
We can also offer advice and links to other Community Safety functions such as the Fire-setting Intervention Scheme (F.I.S.). This project offers services to children, young people, their families and any agency that might be involved where there is concern about a child playing with fire. The scheme has three levels of intervention tailored to need
