Victim & Witnesses of Crime

In Gwent Police it is important to us that we support you in what is best for you as a victim or witness of crime.

The decision to contact the police can be stressful and you might be worried or concerned about its implications.

If you would like advice or support, there are many people who can help.

Connect Gwent is a service that is working to ensure that victims of crime receive the support, information and guidance that they need in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.

They will tell you what to expect from Gwent Police and give contacts for other agencies in the Criminal Justice System that you can contact for free advice, practical information or emotional support.

You are entitled to make a complaint if you do not receive the information and services you are entitled to, and to receive a full response in relation to that complaint.

You can call Gwent Police on 101 for any non-emergency incidents such as minor traffic collisions, criminal damage or about an issue affecting your community and is in use across England, Scotland and Wales. The number is designed to make it easier for you to contact police wherever you are in the country. 101 replaces previous non-emergency numbers but calls will still be answered in the same police Force Control Room by trained, experienced call handlers. Remember, always call 999 in an emergency or if you witness a crime taking place.

Connect Gwent  is a multi-agency, free and confidential service for anyone impacted by crime.  Staff in Connect  Gwent offer emotional, practical and advocacy support. It doesn't matter whether you have reported the crime to the police or when it happened Connect Gwent can support you.
