Appeal for information following damage to the wheels of two police vehicles

Officers are appealing for information after two police cars were attacked outside Brynmawr Police Station in the early hours of Friday 1st February 2019.

At approximately 12.45am, a vehicle pulled into Somerset Street, just outside Brynmawr Police Station. The passenger got out of the vehicle (seen in the CCTV) and approached two Gwent Police vehicles, puncturing four of the tyres. A police officer’s personal vehicle was also targeted, with another two tyres punctured during the incident.

Officers believe the vehicle involved was an old shape, Mitsubishi Pajero with a silver lower trim and dark coloured upper half.

The passenger was wearing a dark hooded top, lighter tracksuit bottoms and wellies.

Officers disturbed the offender, before he got back into the passenger seat of the vehicle and was then driven off.

Blaenau Gwent Inspector, Amanda Thomas says: “This appears to be a pre-meditated attack on our vehicles in the Blaenau Gwent area. I’m asking anyone who may have any information to please contact us.

“That night, it was snowing, our vehicles are vital to the work carried out by the emergency services and more so when bad weather sets in and we need to get to parts of the community that need us most.

“The loss of two police cars can have a serious impact on the way in which emergencies are dealt with.  I hope the residents of Brynmawr will agree that this is not acceptable and support my officers in ensuring these people are identified.”
