This morning, we all woke to the shocking news of shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. We have since learned that 49 people have been killed, and at least 20 more were wounded. Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives, and to everyone involved and affected by this awful attack.
Hate crime, in any form, is completely unacceptable. It is important that we stand together in a show of solidarity against such hatred, building on the excellent existing relationships within the communities of Gwent and beyond – today and every day.
I would urge anyone in Gwent who is suffering hate crime to report it. We will not tolerate this and will support you in whatever way we can.
Gwent Police Chief Constable Julian Williams
