Did you see anything? Officers are in investigating an armed Robbery in Alway.

We are appealing for information following an armed robbery in the Alway area of Newport. At approximately 11.15am on Wednesday 16th October 2019, we were called by the Welsh Ambulance Service to the Alway area of Newport, following reports that a man had been stabbed on Penkin Hill, near the junction of Aberthaw Road.

During the altercation, the victim, a 26-year-old man from Newport, had his watch and phone stolen from his pocket.

He was conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital with injuries to his leg. Following treatment he has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

An 19-year-old man from the Llanrumney area, Cardiff has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.

Officers are requesting any motorists that used the road around the time of the incident or residents with dash-cams fitted to their vehicle, to please check any footage that may provide further information that will assist officers with their enquiries.

Detective Inspector Amanda Venn said, of Gwent Police’s East Local Policing Area said, "An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is underway and we currently have officers in the area carrying out further enquiries and providing reassurance to the local community.
