Keep your property secure after a number of burglaries reported in Caerphilly borough

We are reminding business owners and residents in the Caerphilly county borough area to remain vigilant after a number of attempted burglaries and burglaries have been reported to the force.

Seven residential properties and two commercial premises in Bargoed, Fleur-de-Lis, Hengoed and Pengam were targeted, and these incidents were reported to Gwent Police on either Wednesday 8 July and Thursday 9 July.

Among the items taken during the burglaries include a mountain bike from an address in Woodland Place, Pengam; a scrambler bike from a property in Baldwin Street, Bargoed and a till containing around £500 in cash from a takeaway restaurant in Fleur-de-Lis.

Gwent Police is reminding residents across all parts of the force area to report any suspicious activity to the police.

DC Ceri McDermott said: “This amount of attempted burglaries and burglaries in a small geographical area is quite unusual.

“We are not ruling out the possibility that these incidents are all linked at this stage of the investigation as nearly all of these incidents had similar features – for example locks were snapped to gain entry.

“Items have been taken at six of the addresses. These include two bikes, a till containing around £500, a jar with money inside, alcohol, two jackets and sports gear.

“Access has been gained at the other properties and searches of garages, shed and vehicles has occurred.

“After initial enquiries, it would appear that nothing has been taken from those addresses.

“Investigations are ongoing and we have received a report that a person, believed to be a man, was seen acting suspiciously at around 2am at an address in Woodland Place, Pengam on Thursday 9 July.

“We would urge people to call us should they see any suspicious activity as soon after the event as possible.

“We are asking people to be vigilant and secure their property best they can and invest in CCTV and alarms if possible.”

Gwent Police is appealing for any witnesses or any individuals who may have CCTV footage, dashcam footage or information relating to these incidents to contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting the following log numbers:
