Brandino Ciccione, 52 from Newport, has been jailed for 5 years for sex offences.
Ciccione was found guilty of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause/incite a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.
DC Jack Harris said: "These offences took place in February 2020. Ciccione believed he was conversing online with a young girl but it was actually a decoy account. Although thankfully there was no real child involved in this case, Ciccione's intentions were clear. I welcome this sentence and I hope that it serves as a deterrent to individuals who seek to exploit and abuse children or other vulnerable members of society for their own sexual gratification."
Ciccione must register as a sex offender and will be subject of a sexual harm prevention order.
