Hello all,
I am your neighbourhood inspector for Torfaen and this is the return of our blog feature.
Here, I’ll provide an update on recent policing activity in Torfaen and look ahead at our focus for the coming months.
Serious and organised crime | Drug supply
Our policing teams work hard to address serious and organised crime, including the supply of drugs within our communities.
Within recent months, several warrants have been executed, which have been followed by arrests and the seizure of drugs and other evidence.
This includes a 21-year-old Newport male sentenced to six years imprisonment for the supply of drugs in the Cwmbran area.
Most enforcement action starts from information shared by communities – and we treat this valuable intelligence sensitively. If you have any concerns about something happening in your area, please let us know by calling 101, emailing [email protected], or visiting our Facebook or Twitter pages.
You can also report information anonymously though CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.
Recent arrests and sentencing
Although we’re fortunate to live and work in a relatively safe place, please be assured that we deal with crime robustly when it takes place.
We welcomed the sentence given to a 24-year-old male for armed robbery in Cwmbran earlier this summer and I want to thank the work of officers for taking swift action to identify, arrest and charge the offender.
White Ribbon Day and ending violence against women and girls
Many of the calls officers respond to every day of the year are reports of domestic violence.
My officers and I are committed to tackling violence towards women and girls, and recently marked White Ribbon Day.
This year, we are also highlighting that every day across Gwent 30 children are affected by incidents of domestic violence at home where police are called.
Illegal off-roading
As Gwent Police’s lead for tackling illegal off-roading, I co-ordinate our response to the issue that causes damage to the environment, harms animals and habitats and places other countryside users at risk.
We run regular operations all over the force to bring those responsible to justice and, over the last 12 months, we have seized over 135 vehicles.
Find out more information on Op Harley and how you can help share intelligence on this issue.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
We’re committed to keeping all road users, and pedestrians, safe and will shortly be launching our seasonal campaign to tackle drink/drug driving.
Officers will be out all hours of the day and night targeting those who put others at risk others by getting behind the wheel whilst under the influence.
Driving under the influence can severely impair your judgement and reaction time. It’s never acceptable. Don’t be the person responsible for destroying a family this Christmas.
Thank you for your continued support.
Inspector Aled George
