A flat in Medway Road, Newport, was boarded up last week following a successful closure application at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The three-month closure order was granted on 2 November after officers carried out a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act on Thursday 12 August and five men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a class A drug.
The five men – all from Newport and aged 51, 27, 26, 26 and 24 – were all released under investigation as enquiries continue.
PC Racheal Ford, the crime and disorder reduction officer (CADRO) for Bettws, said:
“We’ve had numerous calls from the community regarding anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, drug use and drug dealing linked to this address in Bettws.
“This behaviour negatively impacts the quality of life for residents. It will not be tolerated in our communities.
“I hope that this reassures residents that if they have concerns about problem premises which are causing harm to the community, they can report it and we will work hard with our partners to take action.”
During the period of the order, which expires in February 2022, anyone who attempts to enter this property in breach of the notice can be arrested by police.
