A Pontypool man will now serve 9 years in prison for aggravated burglary.
Marcus Ball, 34, was sentenced today at Cardiff Crown Court after pleading guilty.
The burglary took place in Broadmead Park, Newport.
OIC DC Alistair Frame said: "Marcus Ball forced his way into the victim's flat on the evening of 19th January. He threatened the victim with a knife and scissors before stealing a number of items. Ball was located by police a short time later in possession of a number of these.
"I welcome the sentence given today. This was a particularly terrifying ordeal for the elderly victim and I would like to thank him for his courage and support throughout the investigation."
