Protect yourself from distraction fraud
Main article content
We're investigating two reports of distraction fraud (one incident at Tesco in Abertillery and one in Pontypandy, Caerphilly), on 23 August, where individuals have reported their cards being "swallowed" at a cashpoint but subsequently used by someone else to fraudulently withdraw cash or make purchases.
There are a few things that you can do to protect yourself from this type of crime:
- remain vigilant when using a cash machine
- be aware of who's looking over your shoulder, or talking to you while you input your pin
- always cover your hand when entering your pin
- if your card isn't returned, consider blocking your account as a precautionary measure.
