A 34-year-old Markham man has been charged with a number of burglary offences after Gwent Police’s detectives worked swiftly following reports of break-ins in the Blackwood area earlier this week.
In the early hours of Monday 30 January, Gwent Police received reports of a burglary at a commercial premises in Maesycwmmer after a man reportedly entered the site, damaged tills and left on a motorcycle after being disturbed. He was said to be carrying an axe as he fled.
Roughly 40 minutes later, officers were made aware of a break-in at commercial premises on Blackwood Gate Retail Park.
Officers arrived quickly at the scene, before a Gwent dog handler carried out a search of the area.
Shortly after, a 34-year-old man from Markham was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
He was also later arrested in connection with investigations into other burglaries and, in total, charged with burglary (x4), attempted burglary, being in possession of a bladed article, threatening behaviour with a bladed article and driving while disqualified (x4).
He appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Tuesday 31 January and was remanded into custody.
