We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A468, near Bedwas, at around 5.50pm on Friday 7 July.
Officers attended, along with personnel from the Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service, and the collision involved two motorcycles and a car.
A 60-year-old Caerphilly man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His next of kin are aware and are receiving support from specialist officers.
A 70-year-old man from the Caerphilly area was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for treatment.
Officers investigating the collision would like to speak to any motorists who were travelling on the A468 – the section between the Cedar Tree roundabout and Bedwas – between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday 7 July.
