Over 30 vehicles checked and more than 20 traffic offence reports issued as part of latest operation to crack down on motoring offences

Operation Utah – a multi-agency day of action – is designed to identify and tackle road users putting other motorists at risk – either by driving illegally or by driving vehicles not up to a safe standard.
The latest Utah operation took place on Thursday 26 October at the Driver and Vehicle Standard Agency (DVSA) weighbridge and test site at Newport’s Coldra roundabout.
The multi-agency operation included officers from the roads policing and specialist operations team, special constables, and student officers.
Officers also teamed up with partners from the DVSA, HMRC and the Motor Insurers’ Bureau.
Throughout the day, the operation saw:
• 23 Traffic Offence Reports (TOR) issued for various infringements including no tax, no MOT and insecure loads,
• Four vehicles seized for being driven without insurance,
• Eight immediate roadworthy prohibitions issued.
PC Garrad Davies, leading the operation said:
“We’re committed to increasing the safety of all road users in Gwent and proactive policing campaigns like Operation Utah is just one of the ways we enforce road safety and tackle motoring offences.
“I hope the results from this operation send a clear message that driving is a privilege and those not maintaining the condition of their vehicle or driving responsibly are not only put themselves at risk but others too which is completely unacceptable, and they will dealt with robustly.
“I would like to thank our partners for working with us on this operation and the public for their co-operation to make the roads in our communities as safe as possible.”
