Allegations of gross misconduct found proven

Former police constable Kyle Steven has been dismissed for conduct amounting to gross misconduct.

A former police officer would have been dismissed for conduct amounting to gross misconduct had he remained in post, a hearing has found.

The public hearing, held on Tuesday 5 September, found PC Kyle Steven breached standards of professional behaviour in respect of standard nine – discreditable conduct.

Chief Constable Pam Kelly, who chaired the panel, said: 

“It is extremely disappointing that through his own actions this young man has terminated his career in policing. We have repeatedly reinforced that we will not tolerate inappropriate behaviour towards colleagues or members of the public.

“By his own admission his behaviour towards female colleagues while off duty was unacceptable. I recognise that former PC Stevens has admitted his behaviour and has apologised to his victims but this apology has come far too late, and such a lapse in judgement lets his colleagues and the public down.

“Our culture is one where everyone is treated with respect and this behaviour does not reflect the high level of conduct displayed by our officers and staff on a daily basis.”

The former officer resigned from his position on Tuesday 5 September and did not attend the accelerated hearing in person.

He will be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list in due course.
