Police officers in Blaenau Gwent have recently been visiting residents across the borough to talk about their new messaging service, Gwent Community Link.
The free service enables residents to sign up and receive email updates from their neighbourhood policing team on recent arrests and charges, appeals for information, events and more.
Gwent Community Link puts residents at the centre by letting them set their preferences and choose which updates they’d like to receive.
Within the system, the public will also have the chance to have their say on local policing priorities in the area and respond to officers’ updates.
Last week, Blaenau Gwent’s neighbourhood policing team (NPT) launched the service by visiting households across Abertillery, Brynmawr, Ebbw Vale, and Tredegar.
Blaenau Gwent residents can sign up today, while policing updates will be sent by officers from the beginning of October.
Inspector Stevie Warden said:
“The team and I are thrilled to be bringing this new messaging service to communities in Blaenau Gwent.
“We’re committed to protecting the public from the effects of crime and, through this new service, can provide updates around the work we carry out to tackle crime trends and send messages that help people protect themselves and their belongings from crime trends like theft or fraud.
“It will complement our ongoing engagement work as it enables residents to tell us about the issues that concern them, and allows us to provide timely updates on how we’re working to tackle these issues.
“An added benefit is that partners we work with – like Neighbourhood Watch and Action Fraud – are already using the system, meaning residents can also opt to receive updates from them.”
