A man was caught dealing cocaine by plain-clothed officers on a Sunday lunchtime near his home in Newport.
Leigh Davis, 36, was spotted by officers handing over a bag, later revealed to be the class A drug, to the driver of a car at around 12.25pm on 14 July.
Davis appeared at Newport Crown Court on Thursday 29 August after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply a controlled class A drug and being concerned in the supply of class A controlled drug.
He also admitted possession of a class B controlled drug.
Officers from the east serious organised crime unit later seized a mobile phone, a quantity of cash and drug-related paraphernalia as well as further quantities of cannabis and cocaine from Davis’ possession.
PC Jack Davies, the officer in the case, said:
“Davis was brazen in the nature of his drug-dealing activities and obviously thought that he wouldn't get caught.
"However, officers intervened after seeing in Davis in broad daylight handing over a drugs package to a motorist.
“Illegal drugs have no place in our communities; our team will continue to target people like Davis, whose drug-dealing activities cause misery to many people in Newport.”
Davis was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
