TRIBUTE: ‘The most kind and generous gentleman’

The family of a Newport man who died following a collision on Cardiff Road, Newport on Thursday 8 February, has paid tribute to him.
The family of a man from Newport, who died following a collision on Cardiff Road, Newport, has paid tribute to him, describing him as ‘kind, generous and special’.
Officers received a report of a road traffic collision – at around 4.50pm on Thursday 8 February.
The collision involved a silver Hyundai i10 car – and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, an 84-year-old Newport man, was taken to hospital where he later died.
He can now be named as Charles Sully; his next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.
Charles’ family has paid tribute to him, saying:
“Charles was the most kind and generous gentleman and a special brother, brother-in-law and uncle to all his family.
“He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped at the time of the collision and ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

A 44-year-old Newport man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs and failing to stop after a road accident.
He was later released under investigation as our enquiries continue.
We’re asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage, or witnesses who may have seen a silver-coloured Hyundai i10 travelling between Cardiff Road and Gaer Vale in Newport, around the time of the collision, to contact us.
