Officers from Gwent Police’s Running Section completed a treadmill challenge in Cwmbran shopping centre on Saturday, raising an impressive £1,009 for St Davids Hospice Care in the process.
The run, which totalled around 120km, formed part of the section’s training programme as they prepare for a national police race taking place in Cwmcarn later this year.
Inspector Craig Ellis said:
“I’d like to thank everyone who visited Cwmbran shopping centre on Saturday and donated. We’re enormously grateful for your contribution to the cause.
“St Davids Hospice Care is a charity that is close to so many, providing community-based palliative care to patients, their families and carers facing life-limiting illnesses, so your donations will have a huge impact on families across Gwent.
“15 officers took part in the challenge on Saturday, including Deputy Chief Constable Mark Hobrough.
“As one runner put the miles in and added to our total, the rest of us had the opportunity to speak to shoppers about a range of crime prevention and safety initiatives we’re working on in Gwent.”
Craig added that, in the run up to the 10-mile event later this year, he and the team will be hosting a number of additional fundraising events for the charity.
“This year’s Police Sport UK event, which will see officers from across the country competing against one another, is proudly being hosted by Gwent Police in Cwmcarn Forest Drive on 11 September.
“The ten-mile undulating route will allow runners to challenge themselves on some hill climbs. I’m sure we’ll see another fantastic turn-out there and we’re all looking forward to taking part."
