We were called to an address in Cwmcarn on Saturday 15 February following a report of an assault.
Officers attended and arrested a man, 38, of suspicion of actual bodily harm.
He was later charged with attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was remanded to custody after appearing at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday 17 February.
