Class A drugs seized as officers swoop on Gaer address

Officers from Newport's neighbourhood policing team have taken more drugs off the streets following a warrant in the Gaer this morning.

At around 7am, officers gained entry to a property on Gaer Vale Avenue before searches led to them finding and seizing bags containing class A drugs, drug paraphernalia and mobile phones.

An 18-year-old man from Newport was detained on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and is due attend a voluntary attendee interview under police caution.

Sgt Paul Turner said:

"Officers continue to use information gathered from investigative work and the public to plan and carry out warrants like this morning's.

"We've successfully removed class A drugs, believed to be crack cocaine, from the streets and safeguarded our communities from harm.

"These operations are made possible by the vital part our communities play in providing information, and telling us about their concerns around drug offences.

"This information, no matter how big or small, helps us plan operations to bring offenders to justice."
