We’re appealing for information to assist our investigation into an attempted robbery in Cwmbran on Monday 30 December.
Two men, seen on a black moped, attempted to take an electric bike from outside the Cwrt Bleddyn stores, between Cocker Avenue and Glyntirion, at around 4.10pm.
The pair, who were both dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, were challenged by the owner of the bike outside the stores and then left empty handed in the direction of Cocker Avenue.
Detective Inspector Elaine Newbury said:
“Enquiries are ongoing to identify these two men who attempted to take an electric bike outside the store, and we’d like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the stores between 4pm and 4.30pm on that day.
“We believe these people could also be linked to another robbery in Cwmbran, reported in Dorallt Close, later that day where an electric bike was taken from a teenage boy.
“We have also received several calls from the public with information and we’re grateful for their assistance as part our enquiries following these reported offences.
“Officers have arrested a 22-year-old Newport man in connection with this investigation, who has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
“A photo of a man was shared on our social media channel as part of an appeal earlier this week; this person is not a suspect and is in no way believed to be linked to the attempted robbery of the electric bike, we acknowledge this error and we’re currently looking at our processes around the release of material for public appeals.”
