Dean Williams, 29, from Abercynon has been jailed for nearly five years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl.
Appearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday 24 January, Williams was sentenced to four years and eight months for sexual activity with a child and 22 months for making an indecent image of a child, with the sentences running concurrently.
The assault took place in a park in Caerphilly in August 2022 after Williams, then 26, had added the then 13-year-old victim on Snapchat.
T/Detective Sergeant Michael Coles, the officer in the case, said:
"I would like to thank the victim in this case for coming forward and reporting to the police. They have shown tremendous bravery and courage throughout the investigation and the court process.
"By coming forward, they've helped put a callous and dangerous man behind bars. Dean Williams targeted a young, and therefore vulnerable, girl for his own sexual gratification and we welcome the sentence that has been imposed on him.
"I also hope this outcome shows other victims of rape and sexual offences that they will be listened to, believed and respected."
There is a wide range of support out there; not only from Gwent Police but from partner agencies who can help victims and survivors of sexual assault through the entire process.
