Two in custody as officers swoop on suspected Caerphilly crime gang

Officers made two arrests and seized drugs, mobile phones, cash and a weapon during a string of early morning warrants at five addresses across Caerphilly and Newport.

Gwent Police has arrested two men on suspicion of drug supply offences as part of an investigation into a suspected organised crime group operating in Caerphilly.

Officers from the serious and organised crime unit carried out warrants at four Caerphilly addresses and one property in Newport at around 5am on Tuesday 21 January.

Joined by roads policing and specialist operations officers, they found upon entry into the premises suspected class A and B drugs, mobile phones, cash, and a weapon.

A 21-year-old Graig-y-Rhacca man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, while a Newport man, 22, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of class B drugs 

DS Abbie Hackney said:

"Tackling drug supply, dismantling county lines and protecting the public from illegal drugs and associated crime is a priority for us.

"We carried out searches at five addresses across Caerphilly and Newport and removed what we believe to be class A and B drugs from the streets.

"Two men remain in police custody for questioning, and our investigation continues."
