We’ve charged three men with threatening behaviour and provoking violence following reports of a gathering in New Tredegar on Monday 3 March.
Officers attended to assist with public safety, with reports of rocks and stones being thrown at an address.
Two men from Bargoed, aged 34 and 31, and a New Tredegar man, 43, were all charged of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence after they were arrested at the scene.
They all appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Wednesday 5 March.
Superintendent John Davies said:
“We will always balance the public’s right to gather or protest with that of public safety because it is our job to protect the public and keep the peace, not police the views held by anyone.
“However, some of the behaviour displayed by those attending this gathering was unacceptable and was designed to antagonise and was hostile in its nature, and it put those in the area, including officers and the community, at risk.
“Officers have acted proportionately to disperse the crowd, and three people were arrested and subsequently charged as a result.”
