Plane crash in Ahmedabad
The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.
Mohammad Saad, 31, from Cardiff was sentenced to three years and five months in prison for his role in supplying class A and class B drugs in Newport.
Saad, unknown to officers at the time, was at an address officers attended when carrying out arrest attempts for another person. While at the address, Saad evaded officers, leaving at speed in his car.
Due to the smell of cannabis at the property and drug preparation items seen in the living room, a search was conducted and a significant amount of class A and B drugs, and cash were seized, including drugs found in a washing machine with a street value of more than £30,000.
Saad was arrested less than two weeks later, where officers searched him, the car he fled from officers in, and later his home address and cannabis, white powder, several phones which showed evidence of drug dealing and items, including clothing, that linked him to the address in Newport officers initially searched.
He previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A (cocaine and heroin), possession with intent to supply cannabis and acquire/use/possess criminal property. He was sentenced to three years and five months in prison at Newport Crown Court on Wednesday 21 May.
PC, Emma Tarney, the officer in the case said:
"The evidence gathered at the address and from Saad's car demonstrate that he was clearly involved in the supply of drugs from the significant amount of cash and drugs to the items of drug preparation like the scales and snap bags and the incriminating messages found on his phone.
"Those involved in drug supply destroy lives and our communities and we are committed to taking these people off our streets.
"We hope that this sentence demonstrates that commitment to take drugs off our streets and see dealers face the consequences of their actions."
