Inspector Ian Green

Your latest Blog from your local Inspector, Ian Green, who covers the Cwmbran and Pontypool area

Inspector Jason White has arrived to take over from Inspector David Morgan . I shall be returning to my previous role as Neighbourhood Sergeant.

May saw the results of the ‘Your Voice’ surveys which will be published on the Gwent Police Website. Please take time to view this web page and you will find these details under the Torfaen section. There is also the facility to send an e-mail directly from this page to your ward team so that they can answer any questions you may have.

The popularity of Cwmbran Shopping Centre is well recognised. This brings benefits to the Town , but also attracts individuals who will commit crime. Your local police team works well with the Town Security team who work very hard to keep the visitors safe. Despite these efforts there are a number of individuals who continue to steal from shops. There have been some significant arrests during May that have led to custodial sentences being imposed by the Magistrates.

The Neighbourhood Police team are working with partner agencies such as South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Natural Resources Wales in patrolling the more rural areas in Torfaen to try to disrupt incidents of off-road biking and other incidents of anti-social behaviour. Officers provide live updates on these patrols through the Pontypool and Cwmbran Twitter accounts.

The end of May saw a number of burglaries in the Cwmbran area. These offences resulted in cars being stolen using the keys. Please ensure that your premises are secure by locking doors and windows at night. There has been an early arrest of a suspect in these offences and detectives are gathering evidence at the scenes.

Members of the Neighbourhood team are also conducting more frequent patrols in Blaenavon to deal with reports of anti-social behaviour. There are a number of businesses and local councillors working with the Police to address this development. Again, we will work with our partners such as social landlords and the Councils community safety team to address this behaviour.

June will see a busy month for engagement for the Torfaen team with events such as the General Election, Cwmbran Big Event, The Race for Life and  Blaenavon World Heritage Day. If you are attending these events please take time to speak with the team.
