In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act, I would be grateful if you could comply with the following request. Could you provide the following information:
I would like to know the a) number and b) proportion of crimes that were screened out or closed without investigation on the same day that they were reported.
By ‘screened out’ I mean cases where a crime reference was issued but no subsequent investigation or follow-up was ever carried out. This can be after an initial/primary assessment to identify those that are more likely to be solvable.
Please provide data for each of the last three calendar years: 2019, 2020 and 2021.
As well as the totals for each year, please provide a breakdown by offence subgroup showing:
No crimes reported to Gwent Police are ‘screened out’; all reported crimes are investigated based on the evidence available. However, the below data is based on the number of crimes recorded where the call priority 4 (resolved without deployment) was assigned due to lack of or no evidence and information available. Also, the below crimes included are only those where the recorded date and outcome date were the same day, as requested.
