There is no filter to identify which offences took place within schools. Therefore, a keyword search was completed in the crime summaries and the address where each offence took place using the term ‘school’. A manual trawl was then completed to identify which offences had taken place within school grounds. Please note therefore that the figures rely on the word ‘school’ being includes within the short crime summary or within the address. These figures don’t include separate offences for separate people, but instead shows the number of instances and is based off recorded date.
The data pertaining to the offender and that of the offence originate from different data sets. The information regarding the offence is based off recorded offences, whereas data about the age of the offender and whether they were a pupil is based on committed date and where the offender has been identified. Therefore, rather than providing data on a case by case basis, aggregate figures have been provided.

This data is based on where an offender has been identified. Please note that there may be more than one offender, and so the figure may differ from the number of offences identified in question 1. Although the offence may have taken place in the school grounds, the offence may not have been undertaken by a student or staff and so an option of ‘other’ has been included for those who are not a pupil or staff member at the school.
