REQUEST

 

For the calendar years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 – could you please respond with:

 

1. The number of reported crimes which mentioned “road rage” in the MO field of the crime report and the detailed crime type.
2. A brief summary of each reported crime listed in your answer to question 1
3. The number of road traffic accidents recorded with a contributing factor of “aggressive driving” (code 601)
4. If it is within the time/cost limit of the FOI Act, a brief summary of the incidents listed in your answer to question 3
5. Please also specify for 1) and 3) the number of “cyclists”, “horse riders” and “pedestrians” involved in reports of road rage and aggressive driving

For the calendar years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 – could you please respond with:

 

1. The number of reported crimes which mentioned “road rage” in the MO field of the crime report and the detailed crime type.

 

The table below shows the number of offences recorded from 2019 – 01/06/2022 where the phrase ‘road rage’ was mentioned within the crime summary. A manual trawl was then completed to identify if the offences were relevant. A separate excel sheet has been provided which includes the offence titles.

1. A brief summary of each reported crime listed in your answer to question 1

 

The excel sheet attached contains redacted crime summaries. There may be multiple of the same summaries if there were 2 or more offences that took place from the same incident. The crime summaries have been altered to remove any identifying information.

 

2. The number of road traffic accidents recorded with a contributing factor of “aggressive driving” (code 601)

 

The below table shows the number of incidents (from the STORM incident system) where the term “aggressive driving” or “aggressive driver” was found within the remarks. The data for 2022 is for 01/01/2022 – 20/06/2022. Data correct as of 20/06/2022.

3. If it is within the time/cost limit of the FOI Act, a brief summary of the incidents listed in your answer to question 3

 

A description cannot be provided for each incident, as the descriptions are very brief and tend to only include ‘aggressive driving’ or ‘aggressive driver’. Therefore the ‘closing category’ has been provided.

A keyword search was conducted using the terms suggested on the crime summary and incident remarks. For offences, there was only one recorded offence which included ‘cyclists/cyclist/bicycle’ within the crime summary.

 

For incidents, there was only one incident where the phrase ‘pedestrian’ was included within the incident remarks.
