2022/25289 - Drivers Speeding on the A465

REQUEST

 

I would like information relating to the amount of drivers caught speeding in the average speed check cameras on A465 Brynmawr-Gilwern 50mph zone.

 

As a local driving instructor, travelling very frequently up & down the A465 from Brynmawr to Abergavenny. I am appalled by the number of drivers that blatantly overtake us in the 50 zone.

 

Please can I access information regarding the average speed check cameras, IE number of offences and tickets issued.

 

I would like the numbers to be published, or announced on the news, so people know that they are actually working, that’s if they are?

 

 

RESPONSE

 

The average speed cameras situated on the A465 Brynmawr to Gilwern are not currently detecting offences.

 

Due to the advent of digital technology and demands upon IT departments to install several camera types, we have reached a point where significant development and investment in systems is required before any additional schemes can become live and absorb the additional demand into the South Wales Central Ticket Office.

 

The South Wales Central Ticket Office administers offences detected by safety cameras on behalf of South Wales Police, Gwent Police and Dyfed Powys Police.

 

South Wales Police are working diligently on this matter to ensure we continue to make progress towards our enforcement goals. To that end, they have approved additional resourcing in the IT team to assist with the backlog of development work to bring all schemes online, recruitment of these staff is ongoing at present.

 

We can confirm that since December 2021 our speed detection vans have been in place at that location and are enforcing speeding offences. There have been a total of 276 offences detected.
