The table below shows the total number of incidents that the Police were called out to from 2019 to 20/09/2022. To retrieve the information for police call outs we selected the ‘Incident Response categories’ for the years requested.

There is no filter to identify how many occasions has the force has been called out as a single unit or single crewed. In order to find this information, a manual trawl would have to be completed on each incident. For this request it would take a considerable amount of time to complete and fall outside the FOI time limit and therefore would be exempt.
421015 incidents x 4 minutes / 60 seconds = 28,000 hours.
Section 12 – Excess Cost
The exemption applicable to the information you have requested for this question can be found at Section 12(1) of the Act and this refusal notice is issued under Section 17.
Section 12(1) “does not oblige a public authority to comply with a request for information if the authority estimates that the cost of complying with the request would exceed the appropriate limit.”
In the case of a police force, the appropriate limit is set at £450, which is calculated at £25 per hour (i.e., 18 hours). Gwent Police would have to conduct a manual search to find and extract the information for this question. This would take more than 18 hours of staff time therefore we are unable to answer this question and the exemption is engaged.
Part B)
- What is your force's policy on single crewing?
- Is single crewing the default in your force?
- Has this policy changed since 2019?
Due to having to request the information on Policy and Procedures we have attached the link for the Force Policy and Procedures which in turn will give you the information you request for Part B.
