Could you please provide answers to the questions below for years 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and if possible, 2022 so far.
Please note the mental health incident data is based on an incident recorded where the ‘Mental Health’ tag has been applied. This tag is used when an incident falls under the College of Policing definition of a mental health incident i.e. ‘Any incident where a person’s mental health is at the heart of the incident or where the police have to do something additional or different because of a person’s mental health’. Please note data of this nature is only available from 2018 onwards.

Please note our 101 options menu wasn’t fully introduced until January 2020 and therefore we can only provide 101 Options 1 & 2 data from this point onwards (Option 1 – New Incident and Option 2 – Incident Update). Up until January 2020, prior to the 101 options menus being implemented we have provided all connections to 101.

Gwent Police operates a control room based Mental Health Triage Team that operates 8am-2am 24/7. The team consists of 5 Mental Health professionals plus a team manager. 5 of the 6 are social workers, 4 being Approved Mental Health Professionals, the team also has one nurse with a background in mental health and learning disability.
4b) If yes to 4a, how many times was a mental health triage expert (and/or triage vehicle) deployed out each year?
The table below shows the number of incidents the team has dealt with broken down monthly and annually. The team has been operational since February 2018.
Responses to question 4a and 4b provided by Mental Health Triage team.
Please note - note we have no street triage provision and the mental health car is supplied by the Aneurin Bevan Health Board so you would need to discuss this specific data with them.
