On 7 December 2021, Gwent Police (‘GP’) and South Wales Police announced that 70 officers (the ‘TOs’) would begin trialling a new ‘Operator Initiated Facial Recognition’ (‘OIFR’) App for three months.
1 Please provide the following information: Documents 1. Any Equality Impact Assessments, Data Protection Impact Assessments, human rights impact assessments, or any other impact assessments in relation to the trial.
- Any other documents detailing how GP considers that it is complying with s149 Equality Act 2010 in relation to this trial, in particular how it has satisfied itself that this technology does not discriminate against people with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.
- Confirmation of whether there has been a review of the trial by an ethics committee. Please provide copies of any documents containing any such committee review.
- Any Standard Operating Procedures, guidance or policies that have been produced in relation to the deployment of the OIFR App by TOs.
- Confirmation of whether the TOs have received specific training in relation to the use of the OIFR App. If so, please confirm whether that training was provided internally, or externally (and if externally, by which organisation(s) or individual(s)). Please provide copies of any training materials produced or used in relation to any training of TOs.
- The timeframe during which the OIFR trial is taking place.
- Confirmation of whether GP has had access to, and been able to analyse, the training datasets that its technology has been trained on.
