We’re changing front desk opening times at two stations to reflect public preference

Following a recent review into how residents are using our services, we’re trialling revised opening times at two police service desks.
We’ve recently carried out a review of our front desk service provision at Blackwood and Newport Central police stations.
The review was undertaken to gain a better understanding of the public’s preference in accessing our services, and how we can meet demand in each area.
During the checks, officers found more and more people continue to contact us by telephone, social media and the website, while fewer people visit our front desk, in person, at Newport. Blackwood, meanwhile, has seen a relative increase in visitors at certain times.
Following the review, we’ll trial revised opening times at these desks in line with how the public commonly contact us.
Newport Central | From 1 July, the front desk will be open to members of the public between 8am - 6pm, seven days a week, and is open 10am – 6 pm on bank holidays.
Blackwood Police Station – From 1 July, the station will trial an extended period of opening hours to the public between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday (and closed on bank holidays).
Throughout the three-month trial, we’ll continue to gather feedback from the public and our staff and continue to analyse how members of the public are choosing to contact us.
