Gwent Police and the Armed Forces Covenant
Gwent Police have pledged their support to the Armed Forces Community Covenant, a government initiative aimed at promoting greater understanding and cooperation between the military and the general public.
What is the Armed Forces Covenant?
The Armed Forces Covenant represents a promise by the nation to support service personnel and their families. It is a voluntary pledge that acknowledges and recognises that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect by the communities, economy, and society they serve with their lives.
The Employer Recognition Scheme
Gwent Police’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community has been recognised by the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.
The ERS recognises support from organisations to the armed forces community, and Gwent Police is proud to have been awarded the Employer Recognition Silver Award.
The prestigious Defence Silver ERS Award recognises employers who have actively demonstrated their support for the Armed Forces community through implementing practical policies in the workplace.
The force is one of 17 organisations in Wales to achieve the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver Award for 2023.
To achieve Silver status:
- We must proactively demonstrate that the Armed Forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged as part of our recruitment policies.
- We must actively ensure that our workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues (for reservists, veterans and spouses/partners of those serving in the armed forces).
- We have been nominated by our employers who have pledged to support the armed forces and their members, including both current and potential employees.
- We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the armed forces community.
