Student officers get a comprehensive input on controlled drugs and psychoactive substances. We have a secure training container that has illegal drugs for them to be able to identify them.
We have listed below the aims and objectives in the lesson plan relating to this.
In addition, the student officers also undertake practical scenarios testing their application and understanding of the knowledge to a hypothetical situation.
This all forms part of their formative and summative assessments that have to be passed before they can complete their training.

Misuse of Drugs: 1. Identify the different controlled drugs and categorise the drugs as Class A, Class B or Class C in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Act.
2. Describe the points to prove for the offence of possession of a controlled drug (S5 Misuse of Drugs Act).
3. Explain the offence of Supply a Controlled Drug contrary to Section 4 Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
4. Demonstrate how to issue a Cannabis warning.
5. Apply knowledge of legislation to explain when a person has committed a drug related offence.
Psychoactive Substances: 1. Describe what a psychoactive substance is.
2. Identify and explain the different offences relating to psychoactive substances.
3. Demonstrate how to conduct a search of an individual under Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act. |
