Please provide data for the calendar years:
2021-2022, 2020-2021, 2019-2020
The data provided above is based on the number of sexual offences and sexual reports recorded in each financial year. This means the data is based on recorded data, so the dates are based on what the force recorded the report/offence and not the date of the actual offence. In some cases, the offence may have taken place historically but has now been reported.
As provided the data is broken down into adult (18 years and older) and child (17 years and under) victims. Please note that not all sexual offences have a victim attached, the figures provided are based on the number of recorded sexual offences for the dates provided. Please take under consideration that some victims ages are unknown at the time of the offence. In some cases, the offence may have taken place historically and the date of the offence may not be known, in other cases the date of birth of the victim has not been provided, therefore we do not know the age of the victim at the time of the offence for these cases.
The figures under unknown are based on either there is no victim attached to the crime, there is a victim attached to the crime, but the offence is historic and there is no date for when the offence occurred or that there is a victim attached where there is no date of birth provided.
The table below provides the number of recorded sexual offences where an offender was attached to the crime, any offender unknown or not included won’t be included in the total.
Please note that the figures may differ to the figures provided in question one, this is because not all offences have an offender attached. There are also offences where there is no victim or offender attached to the crime and this may be the result of a third party reporting the offence.

For the dates provided the youngest age of the offender is 3 years and the oldest age of the offender is 92 years.
Please note that some offenders ages are unknown at the time of the offence. In some cases, the offence may have taken place historically and the date of the offence may not be known, in other cases the date of birth of the offender has not been provided, therefore we do not know the age of the offender at the time of the offence for these cases. The youngest and oldest age of the offender is based only on cases that include their age at the time of the offence.
For the dates provided the youngest age of the victim is 10 months old and the oldest age of the victim is 96 years.
Please note that some victims ages are unknown at the time of the offence. In some cases, the offence may have taken place historically and the date of the offence may not be known, in other cases the date of birth of the victim has not been provided, therefore we do not know the age of the victim at the time of the offence for these cases. The youngest and oldest age of the victim is based only on cases that include their age at the time of the offence.
Please note the number of arrests for the time periods cannot be directly linked to the data supplied in the questions above.
The number of arrests is based on custody footfall – this does mean that if a person is arrested for multiple sexual offences they will only be counted once as they were arrested once. If they were arrested multiple times for a sexual offence, then they will be counted each time they were arrested. An arrest may come any length of time after the offence was reported so may be in different years. This does mean that sexual offence reports data and custody data cannot be directly compared.
Please note the number of charges for the time periods cannot be directly linked to the data supplied in questions one to seven.
The number of charges is based on the number of arrests for a sexual offence that led to a charge disposal. Again, this is based on footfall so a person may be charged for multiple offences at one time, and this will count as one charge. This data can be compared to question eight but NOT other questions.
We cannot provide this data as the data belongs to the courts who issue the convictions. The number of convictions can be obtained from the courts.
