2022/25321 - Scams reported when purchasing goods

REQUEST

 

I would like to know how many online scams have been reported when purchasing goods over the last 12 months, including how much money was lost. If possible, I would also like the data to be separated into the website the scam was reported on e.g. Facebook Marketplace, eBay etc.

 

RESPONSE

 

To provide this data we have conducted a keyword search using the terms ‘Scam’ and ‘Online scam’ between the 1st of August 2021 and 31st of July 2022. This keyword search returned 30 results. We have then read each MO summary to check it met the requirements of the request. This returned zero results for online scams when purchasing goods.

 

Please note that the key word search is restricted to the summaries, as a key word search of the full data log is not available. If the key words were not mentioned in the summaries, then it would not be highlighted for us to check.
