2022/25579 - Number of arrests and hate crime reports

REQUEST

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following

information from Gwent Police. May you provide me with:

1. How many arrests has Gwent Police made overall by week since January 2022

2. How many hate crimes reported so far in 2022, 2021, and 2020? (separate per year e.g. 2021: 1000, etc)

3. How much money has been spent by Gwent Police on hate crime awareness week (8th to the 15th October)

RESPONSE

1. How many arrests has Gwent Police made overall by week since January 2022

Please find below a table for all arrests made since January 1^st, 2022, to October 31^st 2022.  Please note that the data provided in this table is based on custody footfall, this means that if someone was arrested for multiple ‘offences’ they will only be counted once as they were arrested once. If arrested for the same offence separate times they will be counted each time they came to custody.

2. How many hate crimes reported so far in 2022, 2021, and 2020? (Separate per year e.g. 2021: 1000, etc)

Please find below a table for all Hate Crime

To provide this data we have selected all ‘hate strands’ reported for the years 2020,2021 to 15/11/2022.

3. How much money has been spent by Gwent Police on hate crime awareness week (8th to the 15th of October)

The material used for hate crime awareness week predominantly came from existing stocks held within Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The figure provided below only relates to specific print runs of our hate crime awareness leaflet and does not include staff costs related to community engagement.
